How do I transfer movies from itunes to my ipod video?

I have latest version of itunes and about 15 movies on it. I bought an ipod video of my friend and when I go to put my movies and music videos on the ipod it tells my they cant be played on this itunes. The movies and music videos are all mp4 formats but I cant get them on my itunes. Does anyone know what to do?

Movies if they are purchased from itunes there is no legal way to get live advisor that speaks english every time.
