How do you put movies onto your ipod 3gen from a disk without using a converter that costs money?

I have an ipod 3 gen and i do not know how to put movies from a disk to my ipod. It is an 8gig and it has lots of space left. I do not have an apple mac but i do have itunes. I do not want to have to pay for something that will convert my movies but my friends say that you can just use itunes. Could someone please help me?

    Use a converter that doesn’t cost money (Videora).
