Blood Planet (homage to bad sci-fi movies)
Written & Directed by Vernon Mortensen & Produced by Neil Trusso. With dead-pan acting, bad lighting, bad camera work, and rough editing, this is my homage to the Sci-Fi B-movies I watched as a kid. I made this movie as part of the Socal Cinema Slam where you have only 72 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film (we were assigned the sci-fi genre, told to use the eight ball for a prop, had to have a character with multiple personality disorder, and use the line “bumper stickers are not the answer”). It’s strange though, nobody at the festival got the movie. One of the judges scolded us by writing in his critique, “This looks like a bad 70’s movie! What were you thinking?” A month later “Grind House” came out and nobody got that movie either.
